Facing Resource Insecurity Book Launch

There’s nothing like a true story to inspire real action. As part of our 40th Anniversary celebrations, we are delighted to announce a partnership with The Facing Project to produce Facing Resource Insecurity, a collection of stories about real people in the community surviving and thriving while dealing with food insecurity.

The stories in this compilation remind us that stigmas and stereotypes about food and resource insecurity are real, and that there is more work to be done to understand the lived experiences of those in East-Central Indiana who face resource insecurity. At the same time, many of the stories provide the resounding hope that exists when communities come together to help their neighbors.
– J.R. Jamison, co-founder and president of The Facing Project.

These stories will honor people who have found ways to endure and thrive despite the challenges of food and resource insecurity. The storytellers volunteered to share their experiences with Facing Project writers, and the pairs collaborated to create short first-person memoirs from each storyteller’s perspective. At the launch event, several of the stories will be brought to life through dramatic monologues by performers from The Facing Project. By collecting these stories in a single volume and sharing them with the community, Second Harvest hopes to provide a resource to create empathy, resilience, and understanding.
