BSU Student Voluntary Services Honors Second Harvest

Second Harvest Food Bank is honored to be named Ball State Student Voluntary Services’ Community Agency of the Year, and then absolutely delighted to know it was through a unanimous vote by SVS leadership!

An overwhelming number of Second Harvest Food Bank volunteers come from Ball State University, often coordinated by Student Voluntary Services. “I had a wonderful time getting to know other Greeks while helping to sort onions to give at the tailgate. It made me feel really good seeing just how much we got accomplished, especially knowing it would all go to help families like mine once was.” – An SVS volunteer.

“This is Super Exciting!!” said Kellie Arrowood, Volunteer Coordinator for Second Harvest. “Every day of this pandemic, I miss the volunteers being here. I miss the connection, energy, and excitement that I see in the students when they realize how big an impact they made in the eight counties we serve. Together, we get things done.”

Second Harvest relies on a strong network of volunteers to facilitate operations, from food preparation, to tailgate food distribution, to the Big Idea, and helping out in the office. “During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have been grateful for the assistance of County Emergency Management organizations and the Army National Guard,” said Tim Kean, CEO/President of Second Harvest. “We are so glad to be a hub of volunteerism that brings people from all walks of life together to enrich our community.”
