Welcoming our newest Strategic Partner in facing Senior Hunger, Humana!

Second Harvest Food Bank is delighted to welcome Humana as a Strategic Partner! Humana is a provider of healthcare for Seniors, which makes them a natural fit as we continue to expand our Senior Safety Net initiative, now operational in seven counties.

“Everyone should have access to healthy food options, and we’re helping to make that happen.” – Nick Byrdo, DSNP Community Outreach Manager.

Humana’s Healthy Foods Card also provides seniors with a monthly grocery allowance, helping offset costs for resource-insecure seniors. For more information, contact Nick Byrdo by email or by calling 317-771-3049.

If you are a senior in need of food assistance, we invite you to join us at one of these distributions. If you cannot make it, you are welcome to send someone in your place, with a note to let site coordinators know they’re picking up for you.

As seniors become more food insecure, they also become more likely to develop diseases and illness that affect their need for medical intervention and assistance. According to a 2018 report from Feeding America, food-insecure seniors are 60 percent more likely to suffer from depression than food-secure seniors. By partnering with Humana we are able to create a space where seniors can find resources, including food and healthcare options.

We look forward to the opportunities partnering with Humana will provide to us and to seniors facing resource insecurity in East Central Indiana, as we strive to build relationships across communities to bring Help for Today and Hope for Tomorrow.
