Something heartbreaking might very well happen right here in East Central Indiana. The recent passage of federal legislation includes nearly $200 billion in cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and close to $1 trillion in reductions to Medicaid. That means millions could lose healthcare and billions of meals could vanish from families’ tables across the country.
Here’s the scenario that we anticipate: Neighbors showing up at our food pantries—some for the very first time—because they’re running out of options. Parents asking how they’ll feed their kids this week. Seniors quietly wondering if they can afford both groceries and medicine.
And it’s not because they’re not trying. It’s because help they’ve long counted on will very quickly start disappearing.
That’s Why We’re Asking You to Step In
We’ve launched an Emergency Campaign to respond—and here’s the good news: Your gift will be doubled through our Summer Match Campaign.
That means:
- $25 becomes $50 worth of meals.
- $50 provides twice as much food for a family in crisis.
- $100 stretches twice as far to help feed children, seniors, and veterans in need.
We know these federal decisions weren’t made lightly. But the truth is, they’re making life harder for the people we serve, who work hard, care for their families, and just need a little support to get through tough times.
And we want you to know: We’re not going anywhere. Second Harvest will keep showing up every day for our neighbors—but we can’t do it without you.
Let’s Stand Together for Our Community
Right now, we need everyone, including individuals, churches, businesses, community groups—to come together.
When you give, you’re not just putting food on a table. You’re giving someone dignity. You’re giving them hope. You’re showing them they’re not alone.
Please, if you’re able, make your emergency gift today. Let’s make sure no one in East Central Indiana goes without the food and care they deserve.
With heartfelt thanks,
